Two fantastic Equity masterclasses this month

Supporting Local South Island/Te Wai Pounamu Actors Into More Work - a Two Day Workshop With Miranda Harcourt

This workshop is geared towards local actors with the aim of helping them score roles in the increasing number of films shooting in the South Island. Miranda aims to cast a number of local actors in the film, from speaking roles to extras. Over a 2 day period Miranda will work on scenes from film and TV in order to open up contemporary screen aesthetics to actors both new and experienced. She would show diverse material from film and TV to exemplify the actors' work and work on audition technique and preparation for the role.

Equity member Nathalie Boltt's Vajazzle - online now

Wellington actor, Nathalie Boltt, has written, directed and plays the lead in Vajazzle. The film went online for all to watch, at no cost, on Valentines Day. It is a seven minute spoof about a blinged babe going below the belt to take revenge on her binge-drinking boyfriend. Vajazzle promises to be sexier, funnier and more punishing than Fifty Shades - So Grey!

Tribute to Robbie Tripe, former Equity Vice-President

Black Dog Relief – A Cabaret for Robbie Tripe brings emerging and established actor/singers together for a one night only performance, to honour a talented member of the performing fraternity who left the community after losing the battle with the Black Dog.  Robbie was a valued union member who gave much of his time and energy serving as vice president. The stellar ensemble cast for Black Dog Relief comprises celebrated performers including Colleen Davis, Andrew Laing, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Rima Te Wiata, Boni Tukiwaho, Alistair Browning, Robbie's brother Will Tripe, Torum Heng, Keith Adams, Ryan Dulieu, Darien Takle, Cherie Moore, Grant Bridger and Ruby Lyon.

The song list for Black Dog Relief has Tripe’s personal touch – his legacy, which he intended to perform in collaboration with artistic director Jennifer Ward-Lealand, musical director Paul Barrett and producer Sharu Delilkan over two years ago.

Hweiling Ow - Under the Same Moon

Hong Kong matriarch Porpor Grace is invited to NZ for her granddaughter’s wedding. Well, not quite. Her surprise arrival, thousand-year-old eggs and all, throws more than a few spanners in the works. Performed by Equity member Hweiling Ow (Flat 3, Agent Anna) and supported by Equity member Ally Xue (Flat 3, Harry). This comedy is on at BATS in Wellington from 10-21 February and the Musgrove in Auckland from 24 Feb- 7 Mar 2015.

PUZZLE - starring a host of Equity members

puzzlePuzzle features Equity members Chye-Ling Huang, Caleb Wright, Becky Kuek, Courtney Abbot, and Cole Jenkins. The acclaimed company, 'The People Who Play With Theatre', bring you a touching and hilarious visual adventure at Q Loft this Fringe. A beautiful story woven into a visually entrancing world using charming puppetry, stunning imagery and stylised physical theatre which work together to challenge the idea that humans are intrinsically self-serving. From 17-21 February. Equity members get $15 tickets.

takebackTake Back The Hood, written and performed by Equity member, Deborah Eve Rea, is from 20-22 February at The Basement. Nominated for Best Solo Show, New Zealand Fringe Festival, 2013, and nominated for Best Visiting Production, Dunedin Theatre Awards, 2014. In a world of victim blaming, ACC’s mental injury proving, slut-walks and Twilight, how has our post-wolf Red been able to cope? An acerbic and spikey comedy that will also smack you in the feels. Nominated for Best Solo Show, New Zealand Fringe Festival, 2013 and Nominated for Best Visiting Production, Dunedin Theatre Awards, 2014.
