100% Equity cast - Constellations

constellationsEquity members Renee Lyons and Wesley Dowdell are the 100% Equity cast of Constellations, on at the Court Theatre in Christchurch from 2-16 May. Boy (an easy going bee-keeper) meets Girl (a sophisticated quantum physicist) and so begins a deeply absorbing romantic journey which explores the infinite possibilities of their relationship, where each path they take shapes an entirely different future. Constellations is an emotional, funny and thoughtful drama with identifiable characters and situations which raises questions about love, trust and free-will.

Your Equity-Spada screen agreement explained

knowyourrightsNearly every week, the Equity New Zealand E-Bulletin will explain a clause in our Equity-SPADA recommended screen agreement, and publish this explanation on the website.

This week we look at: Special Conditions (if any):

This is not so much a clause as a blank space in the contract. It should be used by your agent to include any improvements they may have negotiated for you individually, over and above the minimum standards in the agreement. Special Conditions (if any) should never be used for the producer to downgrade the agreement. Recently, we have seen a producer using this blank space to delete our agreed protective clauses around nudity and replace these clauses with their own, downgraded clauses which say the actor can be asked to do more nudity during the shoot than originally agreed. Equity has taken this up and will continue to make sure that the Special Conditions section is not used by producers to alter the letter and spirit of the agreement.

Equity members light up the screens in When We Go To War

Equity members Shavaughn Ruakere, Ido Drent, Andrew Grainger, Sophia Huybens, Sylvia Rands and Gareth Williams have lead roles in the new TVNZ drama series, When We Go To War. The series is on TV ONE now on Sundays at 9:30pm or watch it on TVNZ OnDemand. Focussing on the impact the war has on a middle New Zealand, Pakeha family and a Maori brother and sister, this spectacular six-hour television drama cuts between life at home, Gallipoli and Egypt. The series begins in a time of optimism and hope, on the eve of war. New Zealand has one of the highest living standards in the world, is part of the mighty British Empire and few can foresee the horrors soon to come. As the series - and the war - progress, the changing lives of those back home are contrasted with the experiences of New Zealand soldiers in the trenches and the lives of nurses in makeshift hospitals in Egypt.

Faith - Eli Matthewson's solo show

faith

Equity member Eli Matthewson has a new solo show, Faith, on at BATS in Wellington from 29 April - 2 May and then at The Basement in Auckland from 12-16 May. Eli was a card-carrying, Parachute-attending, Christian teenager who gave it all up for the life of guilt-free sinning. But did he make the right choice?  The little gay rock-star of New Zealand comedy is back with a second nomination for the Billy T, with a brand new show that explores life after leaving youth group. Eli is a writer for Jono and Ben a former host of U-Live. He won Best Comedy at Auckland Fringe in 2011 and 2013.

No more dancing in the Good Room

chrisparkerEquity member Chris Parker is putting on one of his silly little shows. If it were 1999, he would be performing it in Mum’s “Good Room”, but she said his limbs are getting too long and he doesn’t have enough control over them. In fact, she’s banned him from dancing in the house altogether. Infamous for Snort, Tight Whiteys, Girl Vs. Boy and Hauraki Horror, Chris Parker débuts his first full length solo show in the 2015 NZ International Comedy Festival Festival. An autobiographical account of a young gay boy growing up in a liberal supportive family. Sound rough? With home videos, dance sequences and Parker's signature physical comedy style, No More Dancing In The Good Room promises to be a rollicking good time at BATS Theatre, Wellington from 28 April–2 May and The Basement in Auckland from 5-9 May.
