Romy Hooper

Romy Hooper graduated from Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School in 2009 and has been an active member on stage and screen ever since. From Auckland International Film Festival short We Talk About Loss produced by Candlelit Pictures, roles such as Alice in Patrick Marber’s Closer, Anna in Stephen Belber’s Tape and season regular Courtney in TV1’s ‘Nothing Trivial’, Romy pursued performance poetry as an avenue for theatre making.

With spoken word troupe NoVA Riche, she performed in Aotearoa Speaks at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2014 and shortly after toured her solo spoken word show ‘LOVE…and other Noise’ to the UK where she was invited to be an international headliner at Bristol’s Boomtown Festival. Now working closely with the whanau at TE POU - Auckland’s home for Maori Theatre, she was among the first cast to perform at the new venue in Mitch Tawhi-Thomas’s iconic play Have Car, Will Travel.
