Borni Te Rongopai Tukiwaho

boniBorni Te Rongopai Tukiwaho: Tuhoe/Tuwharetoa/Te Arawa is an Equity board member, elected in 2015. Borni began his career in music, singing in cafes and bars in Europe, to gospel sounds and Disney work through Australia. Borni returned to Aotearoa in 2009 and has since Graduated from South Seas Film and Television School and UNITECs School of Performing and Screen Arts. 

He has travelled NZ with different theatre companies, has worked in theatre and film since and shall appear as Carmen Rupe in the Screentime feature "How to Murder Your Wife'. Borni has a strong community focus and helped develop ‘’Hobson Street Theatre Company’’, working with the homeless through theatre. He works alongside troubled youth, GLBTQI youth, and is currently working alongside the NZ Mental Health Foundation looking at positive reinforcement within our industry. His focus is to help create safe spaces allowing self-empowerment through the arts and performance. He has a strong whanau base and often collaborates with his brother Tainui and is part of the foundation whanau for Te Pou, the new home for Māori theatre.
