Equity-Spada screen agreement: Artist's Services
Nearly every week, the Equity New Zealand E-Bulletin will explain a clause in our Equity-SPADA recommended screen agreement, and publish this explanation on the website.
This week we look at: Clause 2: Artist's Services
This clause says that all performers on daily rates provide their services on a first priority but non-exclusive basis for pre-production, principal photography, post-production and any extension period. This means that performers on daily rates can do other work, when they are not on set. However, performers on weekly rates or total fees must provide their services for the entire period (pre through to post and extension) on an exclusive basis, meaning that those performers cannot do any other work, even if they are not needed on the production all the time. The rationale behind this clause is that performers on weekly rates and total fee are paid much more, to be available all the time. So don’t take a weekly rate or total fee that is the same as the day rate because you won’t be able to do any other work to supplement your income in that case.
