Equity-Spada screen agreement: The Backend Agreement
Nearly every week, the Equity New Zealand E-Bulletin will explain a clause in our Equity-SPADA recommended screen agreement, and publish this explanation on the website.
This week we look at: The Backend Agreement
This agreement should always be attached to the main contract, or Individual Performance Agreement, for all NZ funded productions. Although the Backend agreement does not provide for a share of the producer’s net income for all speaking parts, which is Equity’s preference, there is a pool of key actors who should be getting back-ends. It is very important, if you are a key performer, that the Backend Agreement must be signed “around the time of Principal Photography”. You cannot be made to wait until filming has finished before you hear if you are going to be included in the Backend deal or not.
